There is no question that God wants every married couple to have a baby. Let there be no doubt about it; it is God’s will for you to have a baby.

By and by, these timeless truths get challenged as the months and years go by and we still don’t have a baby. After some years into our married lives, we begin to ask, “Why are we not pregnant yet?” Our hearts and minds begin to wonder and wander. We are then made aware of some serious information like:

- This auntie never had a baby

- This cousin had a miscarriage

- This one has a cyst and/or myoma…

And the list went on.

We then realize that we are related to a lot of family and relatives who have medical conditions that challenge reproductive health, fertility, and conception. In what seems to be a sad fate, we share a similar genetic weakness.

We begin to worry; we start to doubt. But the good news is God’s promises are not dependent on our circumstances. It is entirely all on God’s faithfulness, mercy, and grace. The Blood of the Lamb is thicker than our genetics. The King of kings overrules our kinship.

Our Lord God, who promised our wholeness and well-being, is faithful. (see Hebrews 10:23) God’s promises are true, it’s true for you, and it will come true. The Lord will come through for you. And so we cry out for mercy, longing for a baby promise to be fulfilled - for this is all on God’s grace. We cannot make any of these happen, no matter how hard we try, no matter how loud we cry.

We all have strengths and weaknesses, but God is sovereign above us all. Most couples find it so easy to be pregnant – and we rejoice with them! But for some of us, it will then have to be supernatural. Either way, let God get the glory.

The Battle for a Baby

The God who answers by fire, He is God.

[see 1 Kings 18:24]

The Prophet Elijah challenged the people of the Covenant to return to the One True God, because their devotion was already lured to the pretend god, Baal. The false priests of this false religion accepted the challenge of calling down fire from heaven - because they have.

But when they made their sacrifices and rituals, no fire came. Only Elijah, the true and real servant of God, was able to call down fire from above. The Lord will eliminate pretentious competition.

Moreover, this was not the first time. Some generations earlier, a similar confrontation occurred. The Prophet Moses challenged the false priests of Egypt and their demon gods. These pretenders were able to repeat the first few plagues, but when they could no longer copy, they declared, “This is the finger of God!” [see Exodus 8:19]

All through the ages, there were other demonic pretend gods who stole the hearts of couples in their pursuit of having a baby.

The devil is competing for attention. In every culture in the world, there can be traced some folklore in which the ancient people of a particular region have a form of deity attributing to a god and/or a goddess of fertility and harvest.1 Each region has some stories to tell that are similar to other distant places: That they needed to perform some fertility and harvest rites and rituals to bring down rain, or on a personal level, to cause conception and have a baby.

[1] List of fertility deities: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fertility_deities)

But the Lord of the Harvest will never share His glory. [see Isaiah 42:8] When He does a miracle, He alone deserves the praise and recognition.

Our enemy and deceiver is crafty and cunning. He is the great pretender: And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. [2 Corinthians 11:14 BSB]

Over time, some of these demonic identities were given new labels. Some are known as patron saints.2

2 See example: Obando Fertility Rites (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obando_Fertility_Rites)

But God is holy. He will never ever share His glory. The Lord is a jealous God.

You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God… [Exodus 20:4-5 BSB]

For you must not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. [Exodus 34:14 BSB]

The Apostle Paul emphasized this further:

No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot partake in the table of the Lord and the table of demons too. Are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?  [1 Corinthians 10:20-22 BSB]

This drama of having no child has been abused and capitalized by the devil. This toothless clawless predator is roaring lies and deceit, and he is actively seeking anyone he may devour. [see 1 Peter 5:8]

But no worries, the devil is no match for God. We have a lopsided victory. We win!

YOU WILL HAVE A BABY!

God will show you His power to save, [see Psalm 50.23] even through childlessness. We just have to obey follow Him with all of our being.
