Who or What is the Origin of Your Purpose and Activity?

“Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God."  (Acts 5:38-39 NIV)

Bible principle: When you obey God’s plan, you will succeed.

A plan from God that is obeyed is unstoppable. The men and women who choose to do the will of God are unstoppable. Though they fall, they just get up again.[Pr 24:16] Even though they have enemies, they will just keep on succeeding.

Side note: A true plan of God will stir up enemies. The obedient follower will have enemies. Welcome to life!

Opposition will do their best to stop the plan of God. Antagonists will rise to discourage the fulfiller of God’s desire. But they will all find themselves fighting against God Himself. If God is for us, who can be against us?[Ro 8:31] Who can ever contend against God and win? No one.

Bible Principle: When the purpose, activity, and motivation are of human origin, those plans will fail.

All human attempts are bound to fail. Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders work in vain.[Ps 127:1-2] It is useless to rise early and stay up late over a project – no matter how good and noble it is - unless the Lord blesses it.

There are those who are really called of God. Others are just chasing fantasies. Some self-called have fasted and prayed - of which was actually a hunger-strike, but God didn’t come through.

The Lord is always faithful. He is faithful enough to tell us when we are in the wrong direction. King David wanted to build Jehovah a temple. It was a noble plan of highest magnitude. Even the prophet affirmed ‘Do what you think is best for God is with you.’[2 Sam 7:3] But the Lord was faithful to tell him – and the prophet, that He has other plans.

Can you imagine the failure King David would have had if he still went on with the project of building the temple? If he got greedy enough to honor himself as the builder of God’s first temple, his glorious reputation as we know it would have been marred and concluded in shame.

Kind David had a noble plan to build God’s temple, but it was of human origin – the Lord didn't initiate it. It was bound to fail.

Success is doing what God wills. Failure is doing what we just want. Success begins, continues, and ends with God.

How do you exact the will of God?
